How the estimate works
The calculator multiplies your lawn size by a range of 22 to 50 gallons per square foot per year. That range comes from two public sources: the University of Arizona's AZMET lawn watering guide for Phoenix, which says a 15-by-15-foot bermudagrass lawn uses over 5,000 gallons a year, and the City of Scottsdale, which reports grass removal saves an average of about 50 gallons per square foot.
If you enter your water rate per 1,000 gallons, it also estimates what that water costs you each year. Rates vary by provider and change over time, so use the number from your own water bill.
A note on rebates
Some Valley cities pay rebates for removing grass, but many exclude artificial turf. Chandler's program, for example, doesn't count areas converted to artificial turf. Check your own provider's rules before counting on a rebate.
What the calculator doesn't include
It only estimates the water a grass lawn uses. It doesn't include mowing, fertilizer, weed control, or reseeding, and it doesn't show install prices. For an exact install quote, book a free on-site estimate.
